A commitment to professional development

Southern Cross Hospitals actively promotes and supports employee professional development.  We track, and respond to, market changes, offering our employees comprehensive in-house training and development - with programmes relevant to the current healthcare environment.  Our initiatives are designed to be stimulating and challenging, and also relevant to our employees’ roles, interests and areas of expertise.

In recognition of the 24-hour nature of our business, the differing learning styles we need to support, and the needs of employees across a wide geography, we have invested in promoting e-learning as an additional mode of delivery.  This blended learning approach supports employees who need to access information and training tools in response to their learning and development opportunities.  The Southern Cross Hospitals e-learning website is active all the time, with more course content added as this learning support is developed.

Our employees are also encouraged to develop their skills by attending relevant conferences, seminars and training courses, and in many cases Southern Cross Hospitals will contribute and support employees' attendance at relevant education programmes.  We also work collaboratively with tertiary education providers to identify appropriate courses - or to co-operate to develop specific Southern Cross Hospitals focused programmes.  These initiatives can lead to our employees gaining an NZQA-recognised qualification.
