| Brightside hospital was originally established on its Auckland site, in Epsom, in the 1940s. The hospital is very well known in the region, and was completely rebuilt to modern, high tech specifications and officially re-opened in 2000. Brightside is a four-theatre hospital, providing 43 in-patient beds and 6 day stay chairs, and has a staff of nearly 100.
Brightside Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services and post-operative care to around 4,500 patients each year, and is widely known for its leading gynaecological, orthopaedic and urological services.
Brightside was the first private hospital in New Zealand to offer brachytherapy, a new type of treatment for prostate cancer, and has led the way in urological treatment in New Zealand in some respects. Plastic surgery, oral surgery and general surgery is also undertaken at Brightside.
